A personal definition of innovation

Introduction

According to my observation, the best and most simple definition of the word “innovation” is a “noteworthy encouraging change in the life of individual, organization, society, and universe”. Over the years, we have witnessed significant changes all around us, for instance invention of electricity, and sources like (bulb. fan, and others) through which we can easily feel the presence of electricity (Crossan & Apaydin, 2010). Thus, an individual can argue that almost 30 percent of things undergo significant changes daily for example, quality of television, image quality of camera, and others.

Meanwhile, if an individual is aware of the historical development of his profession that he would know that positive changes that his profession has undergone. On the other hand, according to (Gehani, 2011) in order to understand the worth of the word “innovation” one has to increases the level of its brilliance because if you continue using this word as a jargon on consider it less important than the word “innovation” would definitely lose its value and significance.

Because of their similar interpretation, it has become difficult for the people to make a sound comparison between terms innovation, invention, and creativity, and if we go by definition then these three terms are completely different from one another. For instance, creativity means the ability of individual or group of people by visualizing something outstanding or unusual. Similarly, innovation in simple words means implementation of a unique concept, and invention means the formation of a product or thing that has not been developed in history.

Now for example an individual has just return from a brainstorming session where numerous innovative ideas were expressed which clearly explains the creativity characteristics of these people, but these ideas are not innovation until and unless they are being implemented and start accomplishing the desired goals. In order to transform a creative idea into innovation someone from that group needs to take certain amount of risk or initiative to start the process of innovation (Raynor, 2003). On the other hand, the concept of invention means that creation of product or service which has never been created in the history so we could conclude that every invention is an innovation but it is not necessary that every innovation must become an invention.

Normally majority of people tends to consider the concept of innovation as the development of new product, but an individual, organization, or management can innovate by implementing or using new techniques, procedure, alteration in business standards and others. However, according to (Sarri et al, 2010) an organization must to limit itself from bringing innovation through products, in fact over the years organization like Dell, Microsoft, and others have made unimaginable innovation with the help of their methods rather than through products.
