Abstract

This paper intends to expound the comprehensive overview on the role of effective communication skills and how it can be used in the successful management of interpersonal relationship between the newly engaged couples. It holds the paramount importance in running the successful relationships. This is even said that communication is the key in the successful marriage which proves to be true as effective communication is accountable for building the stronger and ever lasting relationship. Therefore, this paper aims to outline the five basic concepts pertinent to effective communication that include the extenuation of basic principles and misconceptions in an effective interpersonal communication, the obstacles that impact the interpersonal interactions, assessing the personal communication as well as improving the communication competencies, power of words to effectively influence the attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors, and the strategies to manage the interpersonal conflicts between the couples.

The paper presents the letter of advice to the newly engaged couple with the intention to help them in maintaining healthy and successful interpersonal communication in their future life as because the negligence in this concern would become the building block to hinder the effective communication between the couples.

Dear Ken and Julie,

Many and heartedly congratulation to both of you on your recent engagement! I really appreciate that both of you have selected me to give advice for your future relationship on getting to know that I am taking the course of interpersonal communication. I would like to take this opportunity to share some useful and enduring information and knowledge based on what I learned in the course pertinent to successfully using the interpersonal communication in managing the lasting relationships. Before, I proceed with the advice, I really want to wish all the best for the coming years of your life. May your coming life be filled with all the happiness and blessings of God. Having the effective communication is found to be the key to build the strong relationship. I would like to start with defining the concept of communication because this will always play the mediating role in your life ahead. The word communication has been originated from the Latin word communis that means to share and to join or unite. This signifies the activity of conveying the information through the verbal or non verbal exchange of thoughts, speech, or signals. Therefore, as a couple, it is quite significant to exchange the thoughts and feelings effectively as the interpersonal communication can never be avoided. Since, interpersonal relationship also attempts to describe the connection between the two or more people due to inference, love, solidarity, and other social commitments. Hence, these interpersonal relationships are formed by means of family, kinship, friendship, and marriages which are primarily regulated through the laws, customs, and mutual agreements (Berscheid and Peplau, 1983).
