A Good Man is hard to find

Introduction

“A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O'Connor is short story narrated as third person by the author. The story highlights the character of the grandmother. In the story a criminal is at lose with his companions who murders the family because of mistakes caused by the grandmother. With the old age, grandmother makes the family take a wrong turn towards a house in Tennessee which actually is in Georgia. The old lady cat which she had brought hiding from others cause the accident. To add to their problem she reckons the criminal which actually is the cause of their death. Not much of the other characters could be assessed since they are not presented in depth to their thoughts (Flannery, pp. 69).

Discussion

The story is based upon the evil that has settled into the society and how good is being suppressed by evil. The title is exaggerated in the story to imply the significance of in depth. When the family stops for lunch at Red Sammy, his wife says "It isn't a soul in this green world of God's that you can trust," she said. "And I don't count nobody out of that, not nobody," she repeated, looking at Red Sammy. His wife doesn't even trust him (Jan, pp.52).

The setting of the story is based on a journey of the family from Georgia moving to Florida. The journey takes the route of forest where local description is brief. The family stops for a lunch at Red Sammy and set off back to the journey. It is well spread word that a criminal is at lose. A wrong turn along the journey leads the family to nowhere and becomes the cause of their death (George, pp. 28).
