Summary

A doll's House is based on the experiences of woman whose entire life has been based on the dictations of either her father or her husband, whose name is Torvald. Torvald has been ill in Italy and his wife Nora comes to his aid. However, it had been extremely difficult to raise the finances. So she manages to get the money from another ill-reputed person who is known to be Krogstad. She falsified the signature of her and eventually flew to the aid of her husband. The husband, on the other believed that the money was paid by Nora's father and was completely unaware of the loan. It has been provided that since Nora has never dealt with the issues of finance herself, throughout her life, she finds it extremely difficult to pay back the loan that she took.

In the opening of the play, Nora's husband Torvald is promoted to the post of bank manager. This news thrills Nora and she believes this may her way of paying back the loan to Krogstad. However, along with the news of promotion, she is told by her husband that Krogstad, who works in the bank as well, is going to be fired. Nora is portrayed to be a beautiful woman and being a simple she only knows one way of convincing her husband and that was through seduction and feminine tricks. Her attempts were not successful at all. She makes another attempt of doing that when she was approached by Krogstad himself. The next day, Torvald sends a letter of termination to Krogstad in spite of numerous urges of Nora of stopping him. In this moment, Torvald assures Nora that anything bad would be taken by Torvald and Nora has nothing to worry about.

Krogstad approaches Nora and assures her that their contract would not be revealed to the world, however in order to force his issue of termination, he has to drop a letter to her husband's mailbox. A twist in the story occurs when Mrs. Linde and Krogstad, who were known to be old lovers rejoin again and which melts Krogstad heart. Another character named Dr. Rank is shown to be a dying doctor and who has feelings for Nora.
