Youth Culture, Classes And Gender Roles

Introduction

Society is a group of individuals who live in one geographical place and some social, cultural, and religious relations connect them. A lot of societies changed economically, culturally, politically, and socially (Shackman, Liu, wang, 2oo2).Generally, there are two main reasons for these changes. A non-systematic change such as climate change is the first reason of changing in societies. The second reason is the technological innovations or changes which came from foreign countries. However, there are some countries which still without changes in cultural and social habits.

Saudia Arabia modern society

Saudi Arabia's society becomes modern society. In the past, some Saudis found them do not need to work by their hands, that what made them invite a lot of foreigners from different countries to work for them. These foreigners came with their cultures, thoughts, and habits, which was the main reason of the changes which happened in Saudi Arabia. Recently, Saudis discovered that they cannot depend on these foreigners, which made them travel to other countries for learning, studying, and gaining more experiences and thoughts that changed Saudi Arabia to be one of the most modern societies.

British modern society

In the British society, some changes happened because of many reasons. Immigrants and traveling abroad, foreign students, tourism are considered from the reasons which caused these changes too. So I can say that there are some similarities and differences between the modern British society and the Saudi society. In this assignment, I am going to discuss through three aspects: youth culture, the classes of society, and the gender roles.

Youth Culture

Youth's definition is "a period of transition during which elements of an adult's future are explored, like the skills they learn or develop, which help in shaping their identities "(Rall, Coffey&William Son 1999, 502).Youth sub-cultures are often defined or distinguishable by elements such as fashion ,music, beliefs, slang, dialects, behaviors or interests. We cannot deny that young people play an important role in the society, which helps it to be developed .Each generation has its thoughts which are affected by the surrounded environment.

Difference

Youth Culture in Britain had not existed before 1950s, Britain was still suffering the pain of war, financial problems, bad economy, and no dreams. The idea of a separate youth culture was not exist. The transition between a child and adult was not marked by anything special. After that it has been developed by culture, contact between young people, and traveling. In youth's life in both societies, music and dance played an essential role but of course they have different shapes. Adolescents in Britain listen to Rock and Pop music while adolescents in Saudi Arabia like listening to folks. Dance in Britain is performed in some styles like Ballet, Jazz, Break dance, and hip hop while in Saudi Arabia, the national dance is performed with swords .The men wave and bandy to the rhythm of the music.
