They conducted a research on the undergraduates of various colleges and universities, and the current quality level of the graduating students is turned out to be questionable. Their research concluded that there were numerous students who avoided taking courses that required extensive reading every week. Nearly half of the students avoided taking courses that required minor reading in a week's time span, as well.

It was an alarming sight and it clearly showed that the students of today refrain from investing their efforts and time on a premise that could actually predict what their future is most likely to become. According to the writer, Philip S. Babcock and Mindy S. Marks state that earlier in the 1960's, the student attitudes were totally opposite of what it is today. An average student in the 1960's invested half of its day for the studies on the contrary a full time student invested more than half of the day. The study attitudes are the sole reason that has made United States of America what it is today. It is the current attitude that prevails which is the premise behind the generation of today lacking the necessary skills of critical thinking and analysis, complex writing as well as complex reasoning.
