Working Memory

Introduction

Memory is a psychological process that is used to store information. Such information can be retrieved, sometimes voluntarily and conscious and others involuntarily. In the study of memory, researchers have stressed structural components while others have focused on memory processes. In this Special Issue are set out work on memory iconic, working memory and long-term memory and perceptual semantics.

Michael is under enormous stress from his work place. This stress and fatigue is causing him to ineffectively retain information and loss of working memory. The stress causes activation of many different systems in the body as well as inhibition of others. How stress interferes there with the memory? To answer this question, we must first understand how memory works. The process of memory (the memory) allows us to acquire, retain and remember information or experiences. We have a short-term memory and long-term memory. First, information is shaped in the short-term memory (also called working memory), then it is stored in long-term memory.

Discussion

The memory of every day is really different from that which relates to an exciting event such as a birthday surprise or traumatic event like a car accident. Stress hormones have the ability to ensure your survival by facilitating the formation of memories related to traumatic events like hunting mammoths in prehistory. Soaking up memories related to a significant or traumatic event exciting, your brain allows you to be better able to avoid such situations in the future. Memories take a form within a specific information processing system. The information follows a specific path in three stages:

Encoding: Encoding is the perception of information which is transformed to become a memory

Storage: Storage or Consolidation is the stage where information is engraved in the long-term memory, for example, by repeating the phone number in his head. It's like when information is written to a CD. Once engraved, the information is part of the long-term memory.

Recovery or Recall: The process at this stage is to recall information stored in long-term memory to consciousness, for example, note the phone number the next day.

Theory of Working Memory

Although the specialized knowledge that is accumulated through practice is the most important ingredient to achieve a high level of skill, it is not always enough. According to theory of working memory, it is the capacity of the brain that can predict the efficiency in complex domains such as music, chess, science, and even in sports that have a significant mental component, such as golf. Working memory is the short-term memory such that we use to remember a phone number or email address during the short time we need to type.

Working memory acts as a high resolution camera, retaining three or four shots in considerable detail. These features allow the brain to link successive images in a single sequence. However, while most digital cameras allow the user to choose a lower resolution for your snapshots, thus increasing the number of stored images, the resolution of working memory appears to be constant for a given ...
