Women's Attitudes towards Abortion

People these days have been led to believe that due to a weakened economy, it may cause birth rates to decline and abortions to rise. Others believe that due to the fact of children being so expensive, women purchase the birth control pill from prescriptions through their doctor and even go as far as ordering these off of the internet to keep from having babies during a recession. To certain people, from the moment of conception a fetus is still considered a life, without any intrusion from the government a woman should ultimately be able to make the safest decision between her and her doctor once the fetus has been decided unwanted. Abortion is still legal in the United States and should be kept that way so women are not forced to find other unsafe and illegal means of abortion procedures.

In the United States, there is such a thing for women that allow them to either bear a child or terminate a pregnancy. This is called The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) and it first came to be in 1989. This secures women's right to choose which will guarantee reproductive freedom for future generations of American women. This states that women will basically be able to do what they want with their own bodies. There is still the possibility of “Legislators in 21 states could enact sweeping bans on abortion if the Supreme Court reverses Roe and allows states to re- criminalize abortion, menacing doctors and their patients with the threat of criminal investigation, prosecution, and even imprisonment.”(NARAL Pro Choice America) The Freedom of Choice Act is a good thing for women to have to fall back on incase there is something wrong with the pregnancy or they are not yet ready to be a mother. That is an option for women today.

Considering the fact that women do have the right to terminate a pregnancy or carry the pregnancy to term, this adds to the handful of options they possess. At first, a woman may feel ashamed of her choice no matter what it is, even if it is what she ultimately wants. She may have decided to do what is best for her situation, but that does not mean it is going to be an easy task. For the most part, women want to make their choice without anyone else barging in on their business, and by having the FOCA that keeps the government out of the way. Most women would like this part of their life to be as quiet and closed off from the world as possible.

Women have the right to weigh their personal, moral, and religious considerations and beliefs involved in deciding whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. Certain personal considerations could be the woman is worried what her family might think of her if she chooses to get an abortion.
