Abstract

The paper talks about the time of a women, which she had spent in prison along with the consequences of the crim she had committed. The papers demostrates the type of behavior that has been seen in the prison with women along with the similaritites based in the book by Erin George, presents a realistic portrayal of life faced on a daily basis by women in prison. Introduction

Women generally make up about 50% of the total population in different countries and only 5% of the number of prisoners. Nevertheless, in most countries the number of women prisoners is growing very rapidly, and in some regions of the world even faster than the number of male prisoners.

Criminalization of the female population was due to many factors, but is now mostly recognized the growing participation of women in different spheres of life, which influenced the emergence of new opportunities including and committing crimes. According to Abel & Wiegel, (2009) there is tougher crime policy in many countries in the area of ??sentencing and the difference in approaches to handling the women in the criminal justice system has also played a role in spreading this menace of criminalization in the women. Also today, police officers, prosecutors, and judges are less likely to forgive some women, even who have committed less serious crimes.

Rathbone, (2006) research shows that female crime is more likely than male has a high degree of latency, since they commit many crimes at home. Studies conducted in many countries have shown an increase in the number of women convicted of crimes related to drugs. Although they do not play a major role in the drug smuggling and so forth, and they are often imprisoned because of their male relatives or sexual partners, because a number of criminals their use their women sexual partners as couriers for transportation of drugs from one country to another.

In the criminal justice system, women and girls are especially the victims rather than perpetrators. Although women have constituted about half the victims of violent crimes reported to police in 2009, they represented a minority of offenders studied by Rumgay, (2004). In 2009, women reported approximately 1.6 million incidents of violent crime (e.g. assault, sexual assault or robbery) over the previous 12 months, according to data on criminal victimization of a social survey. The men, meanwhile, reported approximately 1.7 million incidents during the same period. Overall, women reported similar rates of assault and sexual assault in 2009. Women were slightly more likely to report being victims of robbery in 2009 than ten years ago. The assault, which constitutes nearly half of the incidents reported to police, remained the most frequent offense committed against women.
