There is a persona in William Butler Yeats' poem dreams of his cottage. This was because during the year 1913, Yeats met the young American poet Ezra Pound. Pound had journeyed to London not less than partially to meet the older man, who he advised "the only bard worthy of grave study". From that year until 1916, the two men expended the winters in a cabin in Ashdown Forest with Pound nominally portraying as Yeats' secretary.
