Introduction to Assignment

This assignment seeks to identify, assess and resolve some “wicked problems” in a specific metals manufacturing business that might create conflict among major stakeholders of the business. The company is entering a new geographic region, withholding major implications for a diverse range of people who may be directly or indirectly influenced by the manufacturer's decisions.

Stakeholders Associated with the Problem

Organizational conflict is the clash that occurs when a group has a goal-directed behavior that blocks or hinders the other. Because the goals, preferences and aspirations of different stakeholders, conflict is inevitable in organizations. Although this is often perceived as negative research suggests that some degree of conflict is good for an organization and can improve organizational effectiveness. However, beyond a certain point the extreme conflict between stakeholders can affect organizational performance (Egels & Sandberg, 2010, pp. 35-49).

The stakeholders that might be affected by this business includes the government who would take the business expansion as a new economic opportunity, the employees and potential employees of the organization who would think that the business would be an opportunity to create more jobs and realize more financing opportunities for the investors. The consumers would be affected as they would be exposed to more accessibility to the offerings of the business. The health professionals in the new community would possibly condemn the expansion as it would create hazards for the public in the new geographic location. This suggests that a number of key stakeholders in the business, political, health care and general consumer base that would be affected, and whose interests might be subjected to conflicts and arguments.
