He is sometimes known as the Bard of Avon. Shakespeare is considered the most important writer in English and one of the most famous in world literature (Chambers, 1930). The New Encyclopedia Britannica states that "many consider the greatest playwright of all time. His pieces are represented more often and in more nations than any other writer." The works of Shakespeare have been translated into major languages and his plays continue to be represented throughout the world (Shakespeare, 1912).
