This paper attempts to study that why the bereavement services and end of life strategy is important in hospitals. This paper includes the relevant literature thathas been extracted from the publications, online libraries and by using the internet. The methodology that has been used in this study is the secondary research methodology. The conclusions of the study provides reasons to importance of the bereavement serices and the end of life strategy are important in hospitals.

Background of the Study

The dying process pushes us to the edge of our understanding and leaves us standing there feeling alone and lost (Lattanzi-Licht, Mahoney & Miller, 1998). Experiences around death and grief forge the themes that become the guiding images for our lives. Hospice presents families the opportunity to play out their own themes, to sing their own songs. These themes include isolation, belonging, impermanence, and individual worth. Hopeful themes of powerlessness and choice, searching, reconciliation, and welcoming life also appear (Lattanzi-Licht, et al.). The compassionate care that hospice represents is not easily defined or provided. By its very nature, care that is compassionate must be shaped to fit the individual needs and values of the people and families involved. Perhaps that is the most significant element of hospice care.
