The advent of the internet, or the World Wide Web, has been significant in changing the means of communication throughout the world. It has transformed the world into a global village, where everything and anything is always accessible. The primary reason why the internet rules the world is that it is an extensive resource of information. It has connected countries and continents and has played a vital part in influencing the ways that cultures and countries operate.

The internet has many positive effects, such as that it has made the world a global village, and has brought cultures and countries closer, eventually creating a common global culture. However, it is important to understand the other side of the picture, the adverse affects of the internet and westernisation.

The essay discusses the negative impacts of the internet on non-western countries. It argues that non-western countries have adopted the western phenomenon as whole or as part that has consequently altered the mindset of people and the way they perceive things. Here, the westernisation phenomenon includes, but is not limited to, adopting western culture, politics, business, values and lifestyle. Moreover, the essay discusses ways in which non-western countries can preserve their culture and moral values along side the westernisation phenomenon without affecting the business trade between countries.
