The new millennium was the heart of wrecking one for the peace-loving peoples of the world. In 2001, controversy, destruction and death, all in the name of religion.

How to enter the New Year with high hopes of the world, India and Pakistan once again on the brink of war! Why these two brothers are are always at loggerheads with each other? This is because Pakistan is an Islamic nation and India, primarily the land of Hindus? No, the reasons more political than religious!

It is hard to imagine that Kashmir, one of the most beautiful places in South Asia, where civilians can become a bone of contention between the two countries. There is no doubt that Kashmir was "disputed territory" just because arrogant politicians tried to divide the region on the basis of religion.

Kashmir, 222,236 sq km region in the north-west of India, surrounded by China in the north-east Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in the south of Pakistan to the west and Afghanistan to the northwest. Area has been dubbed the "disputed territory" between India and Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947. Southern and south-eastern region are the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and the northern and western parts are under the control of Pakistan. Border called the Line of Control "(agreed in 1972) divides into two parts. The eastern part of Kashmir in the north-eastern area (Aksai Chin) came under the control of China since 1962. The predominant religion in the area of Jammu in the east of Hinduism and Islam in the West. Islam is also the main religion in the valley of Kashmir and Pakistan-controlled parts (Margolis 67-68).

It may seem that history and geography of Kashmir, and religious backgrounds of its people present a perfect recipe for bitterness and hostility. But it is not. Kashmiri Hindus and Muslims live in harmony with the 13th century, when Islam became the main religion in Kashmir. Traditions of Kashmiri Hindus and Kashmiri Muslims way of life not only coexist, they complement each other, as well as the unique ethnic, in which Hindus and Muslims attended the same shrines and venerated saints as (Sharma 102-105).

All this sounds wonderful. People should be able to relax in peace and harmony. The sanctity of religion plays a huge role. Religion teaches us "do unto others as you did." Religious wars are often trying to get the holy land. But an educated person would agree that he or she could practice their religion in their private quarters, or build shines and temples on earth, which is not disputed.

Several Hindu rulers ruled the land until 1346, the year the introduction of Muslim conquerors. During this time, many Hindu shrines were destroyed, and the Indians were forced to accept Islam.
