Comparison of Victor Fleming Films

Introduction

The movies I have chosen for this paper are Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. Both movies were directed by renowned Hollywood film maker Victor Fleming. During the First World War, Fleming was engaged in aerial photography reconnaissance, and then escorted President Woodrow Wilson to travel to European countries as a senior operator. In 1919, Fleming returned to Hollywood, and this time he made his directorial debut with two films: "When the clouds swirl" and "sissy" in which the actor played Fairbanks. Critics acknowledged that the President - the master of his craft. In the 1920s, Fleming made films in various genres, but most of all adventure, as well as in his luggage were melodramas, and even the popular musical "The Wizard of Oz."

Interpretation of the Movie

The movie is considered a model of political satire : under the guise of the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman ("knight" in tin armor), which were extremely popular images in American political caricature in late XIX - early XX centuries, discern the specific historical figures - the Presidents Harrison, Cleveland, McKinley, the oil monopoly, Rockefeller and newspaper magnate William Hearst . Witches, in fact, ruled parts of Oz, there were subtle hint of the rich and powerful monopolies, the oligarchs, in fact governed by the United States. Naive and eccentric Munchkin depicted ordinary citizens, ordinary people, and flying monkeys - Pinkerton agents.

Interpreted as the Tin Woodman, "dehumanized" industrial workers exposed to severe ill-treatment by the Witch of the East, ruled the country before the hurricane Munchkin, ...
