ABSTRACT

Poultry is one of the fastest growing industries and agriculture. This research will be significant for the study of competitiveness as it links to the internal and external forces which are responsible for the competiveness. Poultry is one of the fastest growing sectors of agriculture

The research approach will be a mixture of quantitative and qualitative. The poultry sector should grow in order to be sustainable in supply chain

Venezuelan Poultry Industry

Introduction

Poultry is one of the fastest growing industries and agriculture. The small-scale commercial entities and business are involved in breeding animals (breeders) raising chickens (broiler production), and the food supply. Moreover, the poultry industry provides the meat is preferred by almost all cultures, affordable and good quality. The poultry industry has suffered tremendous transformation at both domestic and international level (Poultry, 2002). These transformations have led to many shifts in the global business environment due to the sociological, demographic and the competitive indicators emerging overtime. The following research will address the competitiveness in Venezuelan poultry Industry.

Research area and research question

The research questions will discuss the areas on which the research will be conducted. The research question for this study will be:

Does the trade barrier affect the competitiveness of poultry industry in Venezuela?

Hypothesis

The study will help to check the trade barriers affecting the poultry industry.

H1: The trade barriers affect the competitiveness of the poultry industry in Venezuela.

H0: The trade barriers do not affect the competitiveness of the poultry industry in Venezuela

Significant prior research

This research will be significant for the study of competitiveness as it links to the internal and external forces which are responsible for the competiveness. Many areas within the supply chain of broilers should be identified and studied, to indicate the impact that these areas can have on the supply chain (Poultry, 2002). These areas, among others, constitute the different parties involved in food supplies, manufacturing and procurement, competitiveness and profitability of the supply chain of animal feed and its overall impact on the poultry market. Input factors higher up the supply chain (e.g., corn) must be investigated, the process of acquiring the producer, and risk, with discounts for efficiency, lower costs and higher quality. Porter's 'Five Forces' model was used to determine the attractiveness of the feed industry in terms of the competitive environment it faces in the Venezuelan context (Porter, 1980, p. 78). This could be done by indicating what changes had occurred in each of the elements that make up the competitive environment ...
