This paper is based on the topic of values in literature. The authors selected for this paper are Sei Shonagon, the writer of The Pillow Book, and Yoshida Kenko, the writer of Essays in Idleness. The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon and Essays in Idleness by Yoshida Kenko are both regarded as characteristic Japanese literature. Both manuscripts deal with the court life during their time period.
