Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss about Utilitarianism in Healthcare. The paper further explain that Utilitarianism differs from ethical theories that make the character of good or evil of an action depends on the agent, because, according to utilitarianism, it is possible that a good deed will result in a bad individual motivation. Moreover, ethics and Prioritization and Principle difference have been discussed in the paper.

Introduction

Recently, the discussion on healthcare with respect to Utilitarian is overwhelmed. The philosophy beside the Utilitarianism is that the moral action accomplished through the greatest good from the greatest number. This is apparently a realistic & moral philosophy which encompasses of certain inherent contradictions which has not be tackle in the light of current debates of healthcare. Peculiarly, the one who had left with as victim to the rough Utilitarianism realities are there few most inexorable supporters. This paper will focuses on the Utilitarianism in Healthcare along with in-depth analysis.

Concept of Utilitarianism in Healthcare

Utilitarianism is a philosophical theory. It argues that the purpose of our actions is happiness and the right is defined in relation to the best consequences, which are defined in terms of impartial maximization of happiness of those affected by our actions. Maximizing happiness means impartially promote the greatest amount of happiness possible for all those who suffer in some way the consequences of what we do, whether they are by people who have ties or affections (Mack P., 2004).

Success Criteria Utilitarian

One of the concepts of health equity in more widespread among health theorists committed to the welfare state which is derived from political-ethical theory of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is a part of the idea that the social good is equivalent to maximizing the sum of individual welfare. Applied to health, justice criterion assumes that health policy is the maximization of the sum of the health status of individuals. For utilitarianism, the health system is one that gets right to maximize combined health of all citizens (Gandjour A, Lauterbach KW., 2003).

If we want to maximize the health, the utilitarian must consider what we understand health. The most common way of conceiving and therefore to measure and establish interpersonal comparisons of health is through mortality. At the end of the day, to promote health seems to have its culmination, in fact it save lives. So, it is better to save more lives than less, even if it means accepting that there are lives that we cannot save, given scarce resources. Moreover, if one has to be selected, for example, between saving the life of a child or an old man, little problems arises that the election is less reprehensible to save the child first.
