Universal V/s Competitive Health System

Introduction

Health is the most fundamental aspect of human life; people yearn to be provided with the best of the health care services that ensures provision of the paramount quality of healthcare. People do not want to compromise on the quality of health care services they need to assure the quality of health care services should be at lower cost and must be accompanied with superior quality (Malhotra, 2009, pp. 26-33). With changes in technology, it is important for healthcare service providers to assure that they incorporate the changes in the external environment to make certain that they provide their clients with the best quality in less time. Health care providers have to stress on avoiding long waiting time for their clients and provide immediate services (Sage, 2012).

However, providing healthcare services to people has become a business and these businesses are focusing on earning money and greater profits rather than emphasizing their efforts on providing effective and efficient healthcare services. Strategies need to be developed to bring in a change in the healthcare industry (Niles, 2010, pp. 93-102). Although competition persuades these organizations to provide services at a lower cost and compete on the basis of providing better and improved quality in order to remain competent and survive the intense competition in the industry, through competition it is also ensured by the organization that customers are satisfied however, yet firms may often not meet patients' expectations (Ireland, 2011).

On the other hand, universal health care program is to provide healthcare to all citizens of the nation, it is focused on providing all the members of the society with supreme healthcare services, its ultimate and foremost target is to improve access to healthcare services and also to bring improvements in the health outcomes which would ensure patients' satisfaction (Niles, 2010, pp. 93-102). It is important to trim down the cost of healthcare services to provide citizens with healthcare services at a lower cost, but it must be ensured that better and improved quality should also be provided. Universal healthcare system would allow lowering the cost of medications through bulk buying and will also enable to reduce cost of administration. However, there are a number of significant disadvantages for nations relying on a universal system of healthcare program, which should be, overcome (Malhotra, 2009, pp. 26-33). Universal healthcare system is a better approach that will allow access for all citizens to superior healthcare system at a lower cost.
