Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Labor unions” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on the “significant role of labor union” for the benefits of labor, and its relation with “organizations”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Labor unions” and tries to gauge its effect on “behavior of labor”. Finally the research describes various organizational and governmental factors which are responsible for creating “Labor unions” and tries to describe the overall effect of “labor” on “Organization”.

Introduction

A Union Association of people whose aim is to defend the rights and the social, economic and professional interests of its members. It is an association of people whose aim is to defend the rights and the social, economic and professional interests of its members. In U.S. , unions distinguished from political parties, although links may exist between them, because their aim is not to govern but to improve working conditions. Unions ensure the protection of employees' interests, at national and enterprise level. They provide an important communications role within the company by sending employees the information they have obtained in the councils. In case of conflict with the employer, unions can engage in protest actions (strikes, demonstrations, petitions etc) (Levitt and Conrow, 2000).

Role of Union in United States

The concept of a labor union in America has been recognized for the legal level, and is employee union in the USA is considered as a representative of employees in a number of industries in USA. The most striking unions could be found among employees of the public sector organizations, like the profession of teaching and police. The different activities of labor unions in America in these days is focused on combined bargaining over benefits, wages, and working conditions for their membership and for their representing members, if at any time, the management of the company makes an attempt to breach the terms of the contract. Even, though, the employee unions are comparatively much smaller than the employee unions in the decade of 1950's, the employee unions still play a very crucial role in the political scenario of America through the mobilization of employees under them, and through alignment with the other organizations. (Marginson, Edwards, Purcell, & Sisson 1988)

The employee unions in America are preaching for a new federal legislation, which would enable employees to choose their representation in the union through signing an assistance card. The present process, which has been developed by the federal law, has a requirement that a minimum of thirty percent of employees should sign the cards, and then, after a period of almost ninety days, a federal official would hold a secret ballet.

It is known that the workers in USA, who are in some way, members of employee unions usually earn more than the non-unionized workers.
