I. Peace keeping Operations in Somalia

A humanitarian crisis emerged in the South African country of Somalia, which was experiencing a failed turbulent state and a severe drought that brought on famine.

A. Operation Provide Relief

The United States launched Operation Provide Relief, which was an effort to airlift supplies from nearby Kenya to airfields spread across Somalia.

B. Operation Restore Hope

In support of UN resolutions the United States initiated Operation Restore Hope on Dec 8, 1992.
