Introduction

Twitter Background

Twitter story began in March 2006 as a research project of Odeo (San Francisco), originally for internal use - Jack Dorsey introduced the concept of the SMS-service for individual use to communicate with a small group of users. Initially, the project was conceived as an opportunity to answer a single question: "What are you doing now?” Dorsey wanted to create some kind of platform that would allow him to constantly communicate with your friends through short messages.

According to Alexa Internet, Twitter is assessed as one of the 10 most visited websites around the world. The daily number of users varies from study to study, due to the fact that Twitter has not announced the number of active accounts. In February 2009 Twitter Compete.com identified as the third most commonly used social network with 6 million unique monthly visitors and 55 million monthly visits (Thompson, 2009).

Twitter is a social network based on micro blogging, based in San Francisco (California), with branches in San Antonio (Texas) and Boston (Massachusetts) in the United States. Twitter, Inc. was originally created in California, but is under the jurisdiction of Delaware since 2007. Since Jack Dorsey created it in March 2006 and launched in July of that year, the network has gained popularity worldwide and is estimated to have over 200 million users, generating 65 million tweets per day and handles more than 800,000 search requests per day has been dubbed the "SMS from Internet."

The name "Twitter", corresponding tweeter sound of the word derives from the verb to tweet meaning "chirp". Tweet is the technical term of service updates. The tweets that contain exactly 140 characters are called twoosh. The updates are instantly displayed on the user profile page and communicated to users who have registered to receive them. You can also limit the visibility of their messages, or make them visible to everyone (Strachan, 2009).
