ABSTRACT
Value chain management is becoming increasingly important in today's global competition. As competition shifts from company vs. company to supply chain vs. supply chain, value chain management becomes a significant strategic tool for firms to survive and create competitive. Market leaders in the retail industry such as Tesco and Sainsbury constantly search for new ways to add value and push the boundaries of performance by realising the importance of managing their value chains. To compete at the supply chain level, companies must adopt appropriate supply or value chain management strategies. Such strategies need integration and coordination throughout the supply chain to enhance the performance of supply chain members. Supply chains need to adopt a strategy that suits both their particular product and marketplace. The research aims at exploring the basic concept of supply chain and strategies used by companies to develop strategic supply chain management and understanding the concept of value chain management in supplying meat to retail stores.
