During the Republic, the laws were formed to serve the needs of Empire. The Roman laws were mixed with the legal system of Middle Ages, when the Empire declines. Therefore, until 20th century, Roman laws became the model for European and South American law codes (Watson, 1991).

Romans earliest law relies on religious customs. Common laws consist the majority of the Roman laws. The Roman laws are widely practiced throughout the world. The law makers incorporate the foreign laws and customs into the domestic laws. The greatest of Romans in terms of law is that their laws were based on the concept of justice and right of individuals. Therefore, we can drive out the lesson that an innocent person cannot be penalized or accused anonymously until he is proved guilty. According the norms and beliefs of Roman heritage, justice refers as a steady and reliable process to give every person that he owns.

Many of the principal Roman law concepts are still part of modern law practices such as the Laws of the Twelve Tablets.

We owe various things from the Roman law in terms of ownership and possession concepts, division of contractual responsibility etc.
