Abstract
In this study we try to explore the concept of “motivation” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “employee performance” and its relation with “motivation”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “motivation” and tries to gauge its effect on “hotel industry in Scotland”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “employee performance” and tries to describe the overall effect of “motivation” on “employee performance”.

Chapter 1 Introduction Background
The hotel industry as a basic element of tourism is a factor essential in any country's tourism potential. In all the tourism policies, there must be the creation and maintenance of plant quantitatively sufficient hotel facilities, which are capable of meeting the demands of a growing demand for more diversified and geographically distributed in the most desirable in the interest intended to serve.
The term performance management has been interpreted and applied very differently in the hotel industry. But the main objective of a good performance management system is to ensure that the activities of employees as to what they do and the quality of what they do - correspond to the objectives of organization, while maintaining a work environment motivating and satisfying.
Aim of the research
The research aims to assess the impact of motivation on employees' performance in hotel industry in Scotland.
Research Questions
The study will analyse the following research questions:
What is the impact of motivation on employees?
What are the factors to motivate employees in hotel industry?
What is the situation of the hotel industry in Scotland?

Significance of the Research
The research will be very useful to know the impact of motivation on employees' performance in hotel industry in Scotland .This would eventually help the hotel industry of Scotland to grow rapidly. This way it would play a key role in the economic growth of Scotland.
