Theories of Development

Outline

Introduction - This developmental study involves all ages of life span from infants, child, and adolescence to ageing phase

Theories of Development - The study describes three major theories presented in light of Freud, Erikson, Darwin and Piaget

Discussion - The Theories of development provide an outline of understanding of principles and facts

The Psychoanalytic Viewpoint - This theory was formulated by Freud while evaluating the histories of his patients

Similarities and Differences - Shows the idea that a child needs change with the growing age and parents should know how to adapt their changes

The Behavioral Viewpoint - The theory drives the idea of behavioral aspects of human in his everyday life

Skinner's Viewpoint - This theory considers all the behavioral changes and the learning aspects of an individual

Similarities and differences - Watson gives the idea of response to stimuli where as Skinner has this view that responses are directly proportional to the environmental changes first, then the stimuli response is generated

The Cognitive viewpoint - This shows the learning abilities of a child. It involves the thinking processes of the human nature

Conclusion - The discussion gives a clear understanding of how important these theories are in an individual's life from childhood to adolescence age

Introduction

Developmental Psychology known as 'Human Development', is a scientific study that describes the change in human, as well as, the consistency of human behaviors and perceptions. This developmental study involves all ages of life span from infants, child, and adolescence to ageing phase. This science gives a vast study of the changes that occur throughout a life span of a human being. Human Development is a lifelong process that begins from birth to the end of life span. Every human being is in a state of personal evolution at every phase of life. These evolutions cover a large range of topics including physical, physiological processes, problem-solving abilities, conceptual understanding, language and understanding of identity formation. Human development is a complex process. The reason to this is the changing aspects in an individual's life. All physical, psychosocial and cognitive aspects affect the other. The physical development drives on to all other aspects, the change in the physical body of a person, his brain, his sensing capabilities and other skills can influence the other aspects. Cognitive development which includes change in mental capabilities i.e., memory, learning, language and thinking and reasoning also brought influence on other aspects of development. Similarly, the behavioral development which includes the changing of relationships can also affect the other two functioning. Therefore, they all are interlinked with the changing phases of human development.
