Oneida Community has lots of significance. First of all let me mention that the Oneida community (1848-1880) was one of the United States' most controversial and celebrated utopian societies. It was the product of the theories of its charismatic leader, John Humphrey Noyes (1811-1886), the radical political reform movements of the 1830s and 1840s, and a growing emphasis on the possibility of complete salvation from sin derived from perfectionist impulses deeply embedded in the Wesleyan Protestant tradition.
