U.S. Foreign policy
The officially stated goals of the foreign policy of the United States, as mentioned in the Foreign Policy Agenda of the U.S. Department of State, are “to create a more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community.”
This foreign policy objective has two main implications. Firstly, the government should protect its homeland and defend the US economic interests. Secondly, it is in the U.S.'s national interest to promote liberal democratic principles overseas (Krebs & Jackson, 2007).

Love and Foreign Policy
Critics have unabashedly tried to interject love into foreign policy debate. Though, this may at sound completely illogical because we have been accustomed to associate love with weakness and aggression. But we have forgotten that it is love that has the greatest power in the world. In international affairs, this strength/aggression effect has reached its extreme, which has lead to creating division, fear and violence in the society and we now badly need to develop trust, unity and cooperation among each other (DeRougemont, 2003).
In order to understand the concept of love within the paradigm of foreign policy, there are two definitions that might help us visualize it. Firstly, the late-anthropologist Ashley Montagu defined love as “the relationship between persons which contributes to the welfare and development of each.” Secondly, Martin Luther King, Jr., described love as “understanding and creative, redemptive goodwill for all men.” By combining these two definitions and by changing persons to people or nations a good working definition of love can be created for us. So the definition becomes like this: the relationship between peoples-nations that strives to creatively and empathetically contribute to the welfare and development of all (Krebs & Jackson, 2007).
