Answer

It is interesting to compare the amazing spread of Islam with Christianity. Both beliefs began as the preaching of a single man and both experienced exponential, much astounding growth in only a few centuries. Though the means by which these two religions spread could not have been more unlike. Christianity was spread through nonviolent conversions and once accepted as the official religion of the Roman Empire, Christians had enough power to intimidate, dominate and suppress other religions. On the other hand, the followers of Islam used military force from the start of their history, and during the life of Prophet Muhammad himself. A number of towns were dominated, and Islam was recognized as the dominant faith whether the population liked it or not. Jews and Christians were treated a slight fairer than followers of other beliefs as they were considered to believe in the Abrahamic Faiths and would be abided as far as they paid a special tax called Jizya that Christians and Jews had to compensate the Islamic state in order to practice their faith.
