Bobby Pendragon is currently a better-than-average teenager.  He gets good grades; he's a celebrity contestant on the basketball team; he's well liked amidst his gazes - and he's making loving headway with Courtney Chetwynde, the most sought-after young female in town.

But Bobby's not just better-than-average: he's...special.  When his eccentric Uncle Press displays up unannounced and notifies Bobby there are some persons who need their help, Bobby has no concept that he'll shortly be imbibed through an interdimensional wormhole called a "flume" and made a down fee on Denduron, a medieval planet (or rather, a "territory") in an alternate reality.  Uncle Press reports Bobby that he is the selected one, and it's up to him to save this world…and probably his own. Totally unprepared, missing his family and associates, Bobby likes not anything to do with the odd task he has been set. But when Uncle Press' life is endangered, Bobby displays that he just may have what it takes to save the universe. Press notifies Bobby that the two of them are Travelers, constituents of an uncommon assembly (or rush, or species - it's not ever rather clear) with exceptional adeptness, ascribed with battling the good battle against bad and corruption.  What this means in the near-term is settling a confrontation on Denduron between enslaved miners and decadent castle-dwellers - a confrontation orchestrated by Saint Dane, a shape-shifting Traveler with dishonorable intentions.
