History

The Israel-Palestine conflict is an unending conflict between Israel and Palestine which initiated in the 20th century. For centuries, there was peace on this land. In the 19th century, Palestinian land was home to a multicultural population compromising of 86% Muslims, 10% Christians and 4% Jews. In the late 1800, some people in Europe decided to conquer Palestinian land. This group of people was called Zionists, a minority of Jewish Population. Their main aim was to create a Jewish homeland. Initially this does not create any problem, but as more Zionists migrated to Palestine, with the main purpose of taking over the land for a Jewish state, the aboriginal population became increasingly startled. This created havoc as a result of which fighting broke out. The conflict grew as Zionist sabotaged efforts to place Jewish refugees in western countries and more Jews migrated to Palestine. A lot of efforts have been made to solve the issue. One solution which both Palestine and Israel preferred over other solutions is to make a two state country proposal for Palestine. However, disagreement arises while shaping up the final agreement. The main areas of disagreement are mutual recognition, disputes on water, border limitation issues, security concerns, Jerusalem, and Palestinian movement for freedom and peace (Sellwood, 2010).

UN's Role in Israel-Palestine Conflict

A lot of international communities have showed interests in Israel-Palestine conflict. A number of actions have been taken by human rights and security agencies, but the conflict still prevails. The area is of so much importance in accordance to tourism. Tourism is a very economical factor for any country progress. The conflict has resulted in fewer tourists in the country. The main aim of United Nations is to maintain peace and International Security. To develop friendly relations between nations around the world. To make sure that no two countries are fighting and to resolve the conflict where arises. For the purpose of solving the Israel-Palestine conflict, a number of times the United Nations has acted as a mediator. Within the context of the United Nations, mediation is the efforts carried out by the Secretary General by utilizing diplomatic skills (Mauro, 2004). These efforts are carried out when both parties of the conflict seek help from United Nations with the aim to restore peace and resolve the conflict. Apart from this to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict, by promoting comprehensive regional peace. The United Nations Security council has passed 79 resolutions since 2010, directly criticizing Israel for violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions, the Geneva Conventions, International Terrorism and other violations of International law. The United Nations has assisted in peace efforts between the two countries by maintaining direct and at-times in-direct communication between the conflicting countries. It has also provided with technical advice in support of political goals. It also makes sure to limit the impact of conflict on civilians.
