Research aims and research objectives
The aim of this research is to examine the influence of international management on organisational structure, behaviour and culture. The author will accomplish this aim through the following objectives:
To identify the role of managers in developing organisational structure and to shape an organisational behaviour and culture.
To highlight the literature on the practices of international managers.
To identify the importance of organisational structure, behaviour and culture in the success of international business operations.
Rationale
When an organisation decides to extend its operations on a global scale, then the organisation has to adjust itself accordingly. The organisation has to change its style of management to make sure that it responds to the challenges of playing in the global market. This phenomena also brings some changes in the workforce of the organisation as people from other countries also form a member of the workforce of the organisation, this also makes an impact on the management style of the organisation. To cope up with the different demands and challenges of international management, an organisation has to make changes in its structure to ensure it has the optimal structure that would help them cope with those challenges. Change in the structure of the organisation and inclusion of people with differentiated backgrounds would bring a change in the behaviour of the employees, and this will, ultimately, make an effect on the organisational culture. This study will make an effort to study the phenomena through which the international management can make an impact on the organisational structure and, successively, organisational behaviour and culture. Studying these factors would help an organisation in managing these changes in the best possible way. If we make an effort to study these phenomena i.e. the impact of international management on organisational structure, behaviour, and culture, then we will be in a better position to manage these changes and mould them in a way, which will benefit the organisation.
Theoretical Underpinning
By the early 2000s, there was a growing awareness that managerial behaviour varied across nations (Kolde, 1982, pp. 201). The publication of many books on this subject had confirmed the awareness. There is a general acceptance of the fact that the cultural elements need to be considered by every application of the management theories (Hymer, 2006, pp. 90). The organizational and management theories, which have taken deep roots in the present times, in US, might lack the appropriateness of implementation or the integration of standard values. The various dissimilarities in the interpretations and insights regarding the application of theories of management and its concepts can lead to major problems in the context of global economic scenarios. This may happen because companies operating in the global economy normally function in foreign cultures and work across borders rather than in their home country (Kolde, 1982, pp. 201).
