Abstract
The main purpose of the paper is to assess the technological impact of broadband services which has its impact all over the world. The broadband service has enabled many users to easily and quickly access the internet at any point of time. Emphasis is put on the economic impacts, in particular on growth, globalization and employment. Broadband networks are an increasingly integral part of the economy. As the technology evolves and bandwidth increases, the scope for broadband to act as an enabler of structural change in the economy expands as it affects an increasing number of sectors and activities. Broadband has become an important part of almost every aspect of the knowledge economy and is especially so in activities that rely on the provision of data and information, particularly in service sectors. Many aspects of producing, delivering, consuming, co-ordination and organization are now taking place over broadband communications networks.

Chapter 1: Introduction
Broadband technology has emerged as the natural next step in Internet evolution and diffusion. With dialup connections limiting bandwidth and therefore, Internet applications, broadband technology promises high speed and opens up a seemingly limitless gamut of possibilities (Langdale, 1997). The future of the Internet is intertwined with broadband capabilities, involving the public, the industry and regulatory bodies. This paper examines the policy issues surrounding residential broadband technology, discusses how broadband extends Internet capabilities and at what cost, and makes recommendations for future applications of broadband.
The adoption of modern information communication technologies (ICT) which is not the same between the developed and developing countries has widened the division between the information rich and information poor. Some countries have yet to taste the fruits of new technological inventions while the industrialized nations are pressing ahead with the Internet development. This problem is serious on a global level, especially, in the Arab countries. Arab countries are under great global pressures to adopt and promote digital transformation within state and society. They face such pressures both in order to stimulate their fledgling economies, and in order to obtain foreign aid (Norris, ...
