To highlight the role and importance of work place diversity in organization that help to transform the working environment into a healthy and productive environment and to look for the possible outcomes of the workplace diversity.

Rationale and Research Questions:

Diversity within institutions depends largely on the resolution of individual organizations to take the initiative in identifying and building a roadmap for themselves, which will best meet the contrasting needs of the employers, employees and other partners they are seeking to serve.  Diversity at workplace constitutes of cross- cultural workforce that engages in different occupational tasks together, keeping their own identities intact. Such difference in identities may lead to conflict, if remain scattered and unmerged. Effective management of diversity includes treating every employee, from top executive to the lower levels, with fairness and equality.

The research basically based on the following research questions:

What might be the possible problems that the employees faced due to workplace diversity?

How can the management incorporate the workplace diversity in the organization?

Do the employees really think that workplace diversity lead to healthy and productive working environment?

Literature review

Workplace diversity is finely intertwined in a form of a rich tapestry that if is tapped into very careful yields and give companies a boost of competitive advantage (Hoeklin, 1995) in this global economy. In general, people from around the world share the same fundamental notions such as symbols, their traditions and basic customs, but they perceive in different ways when introduced to other societies. Similarly, when a new culture is introduced the society may feel awkward or even oppose the new culture, hence resisting change (Allen, Dawson, Wheatley, White, 2004, 13-15). Therefore this issue becomes challenging for managers to widen their people management skills to create harmonious working condition for all employees. Good managers will formulate plans to minimize the culture shock for the new employees and same thing could be reversed when expatriates' travel to other countries for a job (Boje, Oswick, Ford, 2004, 571-599). Acceptance brings peace therefore we need to accept the fact that globalization is happening and it is here to stay, hence companies can use this opportunity to benefit from this diverse pool of knowledgeable, valuable and efficient multicultural workforce rather than treating it like a threat.

Diversity can be used as a means to achieve high degrees of flexibility within the workplace. The individual differences should be combined together to create mutual synergy which will not only be effective for overall corporate affairs but will also be beneficial for the employees throughout their lives. When diversity is explored in a cross-cultural setting, employees are able to make informed decisions about people after meeting them, rather than judging them on the basis of preconceived notions and prejudices (Ang, Van Dyne, Koh, 2006, 100-123).
