Abstract

Television is one of the most prevalent media in the world. It is seen as entertainment, and informative media. Television is used for several purposes and has become an inseparable part of life. The shows are portraying more sexual content than ever. Perhaps the prime time can be considered prime because they contain prime amount of Sexual images and references. Two major effects on the perceptual change regarding sexual intercourse can be observed easily. One is the change of meaning that, sexual intercourse portrays and second is the expectations from the spouse in this regard. Prime time television shows that portray increasingly perfect sexual figures, set the revised benchmark at ever highest limit. The society derives its values and norms on large basis from media. The norms are changing for women very rapidly. The result is pursuit of physique instead of mind. Bigger breast are more important than wiser minds. The relationship is simple; the TV has profound effect on the attitudes, and behaviors of its viewers as prevalent in the studies. The prime shows are having more sexual content than ever with characters in perfect body shape in nonconventional relations. Studies have presented this fact that, TV viewership causes a perceptual change which can be converted into behavioral shift as well. It is also indicated in the content studies of TV shows that sexual references with more explicit manner and frequency are becoming a normal trend especially in the prime time TV shows. The increasing focus of sexuality has multiple repercussions from increasing wastage of resources on meaningless surgeries and cosmetics designed to damage the body even further and making people a slave of societal norms formed by media.

Introduction

Media has profound effects on our lives. Television is one of the most prevalent media in the world. It is seen as entertainment, and informative media. This paper discusses the prime time shows on TV and their effects on perception of sexual intercourse. This paper is a review of researches conducted in this regard and attempt has been made to create relation between the different researches. This paper is not an exhaustive list of all the researches in this regard. However, important researches and studies have been reviewed and discussion has been made to infer the relation that these studies reveal. There will be three basic relations in this document. First is the relation between the TV programs and their effects on people thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors. The second relation is that the prime TV shows are increasingly featuring more explicit sexual references at higher frequency than before. The third relation is the effect of this trend in TV shows on intimate relationships.
