CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION
The Rationale of the Project
Obesity is a major issue all over the world. The prevalence of obesity is increasing in the United Kingdom has become doubled in the 25 years. In England, as many as two third of adults and a third of children are suffering from obesity. Unless appropriate actions are taken, it is expected that the rate of obesity, in the year 2050, will be 60% among adult men, 50% among adult women, and 25% among children. The increasing rate of obesity among adults and children has lead towards the need of conducting a research on the impact of Obesity. For this research, the focus of adulthood obesity will be on the London Borough of Hackney.
The prevalence of adulthood obesity in the London Borough of Hackney is surging. The rate of adulthood obesity in this area is higher than that of neighbouring areas. The rate at which obesity is increasing among adults living in the London Borough of Hackney is faster than that of London as a whole. During the last two years, the ranking of obesity in this area has moved from ninth highest to the third highest (Gregoire, Smas, and Sul 1998, pp. 783)
Therefore, this research aims to analyse the impact of adulthood obesity in the London Borough of Hackney. There are several consequences of obesity including the increasing risk of diabetes, liver diseases, heart diseases, and increasing NHS cost (Hammond, 1933, pp. 140).
Problem Statement
The rate of obesity in the United Kingdom is highest in Europe. The rate of obesity in England has increased at a faster rate than several OECD countries. The proportion of overweight people in England is expected to rise further in the next 10 years. The Health Survey for England, conducted in 2006 - 2008, has revealed that as many as 21% adults in the London Borough of Hackney are obese. The rate of prevalence of obesity in the London Borough of Hackney has been rising at a fast pace.
Therefore, this research aims to highlight the problem of obesity among adults living in the London Borough of Hackney. This research will also highlight important interventions which will help in overcoming the prevalence of obesity in the London Borough of Hackney.
Research Question
What is the impact of adulthood obesity in the London Borough of Hackney?
What are different intervention measures that can be used to overcome adulthood obesity in the London Borough of Hackney?
Discussion of Sources
In order to carry out research on the impact of adulthood obesity in the London Borough of Hackney, different resources will be utilised. The relevant studies conducted on the topic will be presented in the literature review section. The research will explore case studies, research projects, ...
