After the death of Alexander the Great, his united empire disintegrated into four Hellenistic empires, Macedonia, Syria, Attalid and Egypt (Spielvogel 2012). The Hellenistic period produced a large quantity of literature, but most of the literature had not found for the modern world. Hellenistic monarchs had an enormous amount of literary talent, which were used to subsidize writers.
