THE EFFECT OF SENIOR MANAGEMENT ON EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
CHAPTER 01: INTRODUCTION
Back ground of the Study
Importance of employee engagement toward organization has grown tremendously in recent years. Organization enjoys lots of benefits when employee engagement toward organization exists, and faces the negative consequences when employee engagement lacks. In general, productivity is positively associated with employee engagement toward organization, while employee absenteeism and turnover are associated with lack of employee engagement. Although several authors explicitly state the need for such research, there is still a scarcity of literature on how employee engagement toward managers develops within organizations and the benefits of employee engagement within an organization. We need to know much more about how these relationships are developed and maintained if we want to help employees in sustain strong and effective collaboration with their work. This belief that leadership affects the performance of an organization is so plausible that very little research and opinion deals with this issue. Recently, many reports have questioned the capability of leadership in UK. The Leitich report, for instance, stated that UK had serious problems in its management and leadership and went further to rank UK behind Germany, USA and France. This dissertation thus seeks to examine the impact of leadership on employee engagement as a tool for achieving organizational performance in UK.
Purpose of the Research
The purpose of this dissertation has twofold: firstly, to study the impact of leadership on employee engagement as a tool for increasing organizational performance. Secondly, examining leadership values and behaviours on how they impact on employee engagement.
