Discussion and Approaches
The American poet, Robert Frost in his poems “The Road Not taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, depicted the dilemma faced by the travelers on their course of life. These two poems present the indecision, which the narrator has to face while choosing the right path to follow. In, “The Road Not taken” the narrator goes against the conventions and chooses the unconventional approach by opting for the less traveled path. The yearning to live a peaceful and uncomplicated life is presented in “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”; however, the realization of social obligation makes the traveler continue his journey (Knapp, 25-98).
Thus, both the poems are comparable as they both deal with human nature. They also both deal with some level of remorse. In "The Road Not Taken”, it is clear that the speaker regrets not taking a certain path. "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" shows some regret about not appreciating the small things in life. Both of these poems by Robert Frost give some advice about how people should live their life. They are different in the situations that they deal with. "The Road Not Taken" focuses on coming to a crossroads in life and how to choose the best option for you. "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening," tell us that we should slow down and learn to appreciate little things every day (Vail, Pp 123-156).
