In ancient Mesopotamia sexuality, ritual and myth were almost inseparable. The epic of Gilgamesh examines the question of why man must suffer and die. The story revolves around the two heroes Gilgamesh and Enkidu. It is in some reading implied that they have a homosexual sort of a relationship, but it is not a certainty. In the story Gilgamesh dreams of "like a wife" strange being and soon after he meets Enkidu and becomes his friend.
