History of the Amish culture

The Amish people are considered as one of the oldest religious sect and they are a part of the descendants of the Anabaptists of the sixteenth century Europe. The Amish people rejected the infant baptism and they supported the baptism as adults. They also taught the separation of the church and state. Later on the Amish people were named as the Mennonites. They fled to Switzerland and other regions of Europe in order to escape from the religious persecution.

It was during the era of the sixteenth century, that a group of religious people led by Jacob Amman, who left the Swiss Mennonites due to lack of strict enforcement and disobedient of negligent members. They also argued over other matters such as foot washing and inadequate regulation of the costumes. After that this group became popular as the Amish group and even today they follow the same beliefs as of the Mennonites group (Adams & Leverland, 1986)

In America the Amish people arrived in the year 1730 and they settled in various regions of the nation. The Amish people are scattered in more than twenty states of America, where most of them are situated in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
