Q: What have you seen used in a class or workshop you have attended, and what are some technologies you would like to use in the future that would require you to learn new skills?

Ans: This paper is based on a personal experience related to attending a workshop where technology was being used to impart knowledge among the professional nursing Students.

The workshop commenced on the premises of a premier college, known for its excellence in providing nursing education. In that particular workshop, the teacher made use of internet, projector and PDAs to deliver her lecture. It was really a good experience of participating in a technologically-oriented environment.

Students in innovative nursing classrooms were actively involved in using technology tools, such as Internet search engines for research, e-mail or instant messaging for communicating with peers and experts, and visualization or simulation software to create and study models. It is a fact that teachers have now started to place technology at the core of their learning environments and provide custom-designed software tools to support Students' knowledge building and knowledge integration (Wolfe, 2008).

Increasingly, teachers need technology expertise because they are primarily responsible for troubleshooting and using technology tools to leverage learning.

Discussion

Motivation to learn or master in a field related to nursing is distinct from motivation to use the technology itself. Introduction of any new element into an environment that relies heavily on routines (like a classroom) may initially pique interest and curiosity that will lead Students to explore a tool, but this may not extend to necessary interest in the target material to be learned (Murray, 2007).
