Introduction

Tech Cafe provides you with a means of maintaining inventory information, ordering items to be shipped from a central warehouse to individual schools, printing shipping orders and route recaps, and producing state and local reports. It is an automated, online accounting system designed to assist Tech Cafe staff with controlling costs, warehouse inventory, and shipping of items ordered.

Discussion

The Tech Cafe application operates by allowing the user to establish and maintain an inventory system. The system can then be used to print the many reports needed to account for the addition, movement, and use of inventory items. As the system is used, it performs the necessary calculations to reflect changes in inventory levels, order quantities, and prices. A table is provided for maintenance of the TEA rates for cash sales and reimbursements.

The advantages to the Tech Cafe application are that it prompts the user to enter the exact data required and then performs the necessary calculations automatically, thereby, reducing the chance for introducing errors through repeated manual calculations. The results of this data Tech Cafe Ordering and Management Systemare then made available in the form of easily generated reports designed to accurately reflect the status of the inventory.

Extras include the ability to verify if excessive requests are made based on "average daily participation" at each campus. The application tracks inventory costs and items on-hand at all times. Users have the ability to print shipping orders, operating statements, and cost per meal reports, among others. There is also an option to interface costs of certain types of inventory and establish the accounts to be charged for specific campuses. This option also allows for establishing a district-wide account to be used to offset these charges.

As an added bonus, users can upload data from an external point of sale PC file directly into the Tech Cafe application and also interface this data to the general ledger as cash receipt transactions.

The Food Services Division is in the midst of bringing technology to Café LA.   Our goal is to streamline our core functions and make it easier for students to gain meal benefits and eat at Café LA.   Over the past three years, we have implemented the first three phases shown below.

Food Service Division Technology Implementation

Currently, we are in the implementation phase of  the Tech Cafe Tech Cafe Ordering and Management SystemSystem (CMS).  This CMS is an end-to-end system designed to support K-12 food service operations.  We are rolling out the "Back of the House" software that assists with menu planning, food production, ordering, inventory control and other crucial Tech Cafe Ordering and Management Systemfunctions.  Our goal is to have all of our Tech Cafes on line and utilizing the software by the end of February 2010.  We are also in the planning and testing phase for our (CMS) "Front of House System" which will eliminate tickets and update student meal eligibility ...
