Introduction

Transport in London is managed mainly by Transport for London (TfL), is one of four areas of competence of Mayor of London. TfL controls the majority of public transport including the metro, the Docklands Light Railway, the buses and trams but has however no authority over rail services in the Greater London except the lines of the London Over ground . TfL also controls the toll roads.

In the United Kingdom, Transport systems such as Underground, one-way system and bus station contributes significantly to the social change among members of society generally, through linking rural city in new ways to facilitate the process of social communication between them. Thus, the more expanded networks and transmission lines between the parts of the country from one hand, and between him and the other countries on the other hand had contributed so effectively to increase the achievement of social development as the backward communities are closing on itself because of the difficulty to communicate with other communities. This is what is observed on some communities of Africa and Asia, where these communities are still living in the level of primitive man, and perhaps the reason is due to the lack of communication between these isolated human groups and other communities (Nagurney 2000, pp. 1).

Discussion

The current disturbance in London can negatively affect the Olympics because such disturbance can cause a mental pressure on athletes as well as on the general public or audience. The issues of terrorist attacks and other upheavals can cause psychological stress for these athletes and, therefore, their performance could be questioned due to such psychological stress. This is a point of ponder for the government officials and management of Olympics in London. Therefore, it is needed to create such an environment before the commencement of the Olympics that could release the pressure from the minds of the players and the general public regarding the disturbance in the environment and conditions. Moreover, it is the responsibility of local government to soften the pressure that has been created by the environment, by employing such strategies that could lead to pressure release.

Transport planning at United Kingdom such as for one-way system and bus station complements the studies produced by architects and engineers. In the UK, the transport planning is considered as a discipline per se, and with goals and values that comprise the provision of a services critical to the achievement of increased quality of life and competitiveness.
