William Edgar Stafford (January 17, 1914 - August 28.1993) was an American poet and pacifist, and the father of the poet and essayist Kim Stafford. He and his writings are sometimes identified with the Pacific Northwest. In his poem, "Traveling Through the Dark," William Stafford states the nature of difficulty that occurs when a man makes a choice.
