Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to develop a health promotion initiative. The health promotion initiative should be designed in order to keep in consideration the aim of making the target people fit in order to reduce the risk of obesity. The area chosen for the health promotion initiative is the Edmonton in Enfield UK. I have chosen this area for the health promotion initiative because the rate of obesity is increasing day by day in the area. People are suffering from the obesity, because the physical activities are decreasing. People of that area do not have much physical activities, which lead towards the increase in the rate of obesity. The target population selected in this paper is the youngsters of age group 12-25. The reason behind choosing the target population of youngsters of 12-25 is that they have less physical activities and the rate of obesity is higher among this age group (Dailey, 2005, p. 43).

In relation to this, obesity in infancy is not solely a problem in that age group, but is related to persistence of obesity into later childhood and adult life. With extensive data from studies on twins and on families, researchers have established that obesity is influenced by genetic factors. However, genetic background alone cannot explain the increasing prevalence of obesity in developed countries. The prevalence of obesity (triceps skin fold measurement >85th percentile) among children 6 to ii years old increased 54% in the years between the first National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1963-1970) and the second survey (1976—1980). In the same period, the prevalence of super obesity (triceps skin fold measurement >95th percentile) increased 98% among children in the same age range.

While genetic influences largely determine whether a person can become obese, psychosocial and socio-cultural influences in the environment determine whether such a person does become obese and the extent of that obesity (Eid, 2000, p. 74). Obesity creates a psychological burden in teens. Some authors claim that weight loss causes reactions such as depression, irritability, nervousness and anxiety, while others claim a positive effect on mood. As for weight regain after losing it, seems to have a negative effect on mood, self-acceptance and self-image, combined with great suffering that derives from social prejudice. The main cause of obesity among youngsters in Edmonton in Enfield UK is the lack of physical exercise. In the Health Promotion initiative, there is a great role of disease prevention and screening. The main aim of the Health Promotion initiative is to provide prevention against the obesity. There are actually specific therapies for people available in centres where a medical team assist you during therapy. To some extent, these curative therapies are practiced there (Benzie, 2005, 19-28). This type of therapy is different from other types of therapy for therapy focuses on healing of soft tissue work, which means more work and less relaxation. Healing is faster because this therapy focuses more on the activity and ...
