Introduction

This paper will attempt to summarize the article “besieged by Climate Deniers, A Scientist Decides to Fight Back, written by of climate scientist Michael Mann. A faculty member of the Penn State University, Michael Mann holds the joint positions in the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute and Departments of Meteorology and Geosciences. Mann has authored several books and also contributed number of researches in the field. The following discussion will present the summary of the article and will generate a response in relation to the arguments presented in the paper.

Summary of the Paper

The article discusses that there climate scientists and other professional always understand the concerns raised by the researchers through their findings. However, there are some political figures who just for the sake of their political interest, attempt to disguise the fact in a way that it will support their political cause. The author also termed such political acts as damaging to the scientific cause. Moreover, it has been identified by the author that if such facts are not given due attentions as per their requirement, than certainly the consequences would be much bitter (Mann, 2012). The article is less of scientific contribution, but what normally scientist face. The author being a scientist presented his accounts of unwarranted criticism he received by the politicians backed by lame evidences. However, Mann claims that all the unwarranted criticism he receive only validates his findings.

Mann mentioned that generally their findings and scientific research methods are questioned by the politicians having less or no knowledge about the climate change. However, he claims that being a scientist he always believe in responding to the critics with proper facts. Mann mentioned that some political critics choose to go beyond what they can prove, only to disprove their researches. However, according to the author all the criticism in accordance with his views is soon to be proved worthless because climate is changing and denial of it will only make the situation worse (Mann, 2012).

The author claims that mixing of science with politics is a dangerous thing to do, and this is the reason scientist stood up for themselves. The author also called the unwarranted criticism on the theories of scientist as non-democratic.
