Chronic posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be a particularly prevalent problem among members of armed forces exposed to combat (Sareen et al., Lewis, 2003) and may be difficult to treat effectively. While multiple treatment approaches are used for PTSD, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT; Harvey), exposure therapy (Rothbaum & Schwartz, 2002), and pharmacotherapy (Davidson, 2007), significant distress often remains, so that any therapeutic intervention that may offer additional benefit ought to be explored.
