Introduction

This paper focuses on strategic management and presents explores how school of strategy can be divided into two categories that are prescriptive and descriptive. For this purpose the paper compares and compares and contrasts these schools and make an attempt to develop a hybrid model that can be recommend to a company with global aspirations. In this paper we will describe how the different perspectives of social science disciplines inform strategic management and consider Mintzberg's schools of strategy and Whittington's classification of strategic perspectives in analysis, finally we critically consider the extent to which their classification of strategic perspectives needs to be modified in the light of contemporary research.

Analyzing the nature of strategic management, we can establish that this is an area consolidative interdisciplinary, to enrich the comprehension and implement methodological analysis to modernise other technical field of operations. In this regard, materials ranging from the micro to the economics of organizations, from the political science to economics, from psychology to social psychology, and from sociology to the theory of organization, among others, underlie the research conducted in the field of strategic management, both in subfield the content of the strategy and the strategic process. Considering the history of the strategic direction is a tale of promiscuous adoption of other disciplines and subfields of business management.

In Figure 1.1 shows the classification of the different basic disciplines in which supports research in strategic management in terms of two dimensions : (a) the unit of analysis: context environment (markets, corporation), firm or individual (within and outside the company), and (b) the assumptions about of decision making: rational, bounded rationality or extrarational.
